It is believed they were behind four more blazes yesterday after earlier ones in Birmingham, Liverpool and Melling, Merseyside.
The theory – spread on social media – says coronavirus emerged in Wuhan, China, because it was rolling out 5G. Ministers are taking urgent action as the masts are used by 999 services.
EE, which saw a 70ft tower set ablaze in Birmingham, said in a statement: “To deliberately take away mobile connectivity at a time when people need it more than ever to stay connected to each other, is a reckless, harmful and dangerous thing to do”.
