Neil Lennon

Neil Francis Lennon (born 25 June 1971) is a Northern Irish football coach and former player who is the manager of Scottish Premiership club Celtic. During his playing career he represented English clubs Manchester City, Crewe Alexandra and Leicester City.

Lennon moved to Scottish club Celtic in 2000, where he made over 200 appearances and was appointed captain in 2005. Before retiring as a player, he returned to England and played for Nottingham Forest and Wycombe Wanderers. Lennon made 40 appearances for Northern Ireland in nine years, scoring two goals. Lennon was appointed manager of Celtic in March 2010, initially in a caretaker capacity after the departure of Tony Mowbray.

Celtic players take the knee as Black Lives Matter message delivered before pre-season clash

English Premier League has seen players take the knee and Celtic have now joined in to make sure their voice is also heard. Managers Neil Lennon and Patrick Vieira also took part in the protest.

The referee blew his whistle and all 22 players dropped to one knee in a powerful statement that continues football's bid to kick racism out of the game.The Black Lives Matter movement has been growing in strength in recent months and football has played a big part in that.In England, every player wore the statement on the back of their shirts for the first round of fixtures after Project Restart.

The initial decision to take the knee was made by Sheffield United and Aston Villa players before the first game back with the likes of Scotland stars.
