England legend Sue Smith says she would have taken Steph Houghton to the Euros this summer owing to the extensive experience she brings to the squad.
Former Lionesses captain Houghton, 34, was a surprise omission from manager Sarina Wiegman's 23-player squad for the tournament, which begins on Wednesday.
The Manchester City star, who skippered England for eight years, had not played since January because of an Achilles injury."It was a hard decision.
She's just not ready to compete. It was just a matter of time and we don't have that time," said Wiegman when she announced her squad last month.
