Social Security Scotland is responsible for paying two of the most important benefits that can help certain people with the cost of heating their home when the temperature drops - Winter Fuel Payments and Cold Weather Payments.

If you were born on or before October 5, 1954 you could get between £100 and £300 to help pay your heating bills - this is known as a ‘ Winter Fuel Payment ’.
You usually get a Winter Fuel Payment automatically if you are eligible and you receive a State Pension or another social security benefit - but not Housing Benefit, a Council Tax Reduction, Child Benefit or Universal Credit.
