How Karl Lagerfeld's validation led me to success as a photographer

Fashion photographer Simon Proctor recalls priceless moments working with the late Karl Lagerfeld I first met Karl Lagerfeld at a photo shoot in 2006, on top of a skyscraper in New York.

For me this was a complicated shoot with 10 models and three locations. It was make or break for my new career as a fashion photographer, and it was quite terrifying.

Karl had been on another shoot all night long, and everyone was wondering whether he was going to turn up or not. We waited there, high up in the sky, ready to go - and then he arrived.

Yes, Karl was famous, but in the context of French fashion he was a rock star. Yet he didn't act like a star, which surprised me.
