He was a trusted family doctor, family man and pillar of the community - but Harold Shipman was also a cold-blooded killer, responsible for at least 250 deaths.
The twisted doctor was revered in the small town of Hyde, where he had been a GP for more than 20 years. Shipman appeared to the outside world to be a kind and caring doctor, patient with the elderly, and a loving father and husband.
He was known locally as the "good doctor" and his elderly female patients were said to "adore" him. But instead of caring for those who came to him in need, Shipman administered a lethal dose of poison to many of them - and walked away with cash from their wills.
