Disturbing footage has emerged of a half-eaten sea lion crawling its way up the rocks after being attacked by a shark on the Galapagos Islands.
The distressing scene was posted to the YouTube channel of the Charles Darwin Foundation and spoken about recently by the Aquatic Mammals Journal.
It's believed to be the first-ever video of a Galapagos shark preying on a sea lion. At the beginning of the clip, an injured sea lion thrashes in the water as it desperately escapes from the apex predator's jaws.
As it drags itself onto the rocks, it appears that the majority of its lower body is bitten off. A large pool of blood can be seen near the shore where the fin of the beast circles in the sea.
