Fate of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa’s surviving dogs revealed after tragic deaths
two surviving dogs have been separated in the wake of the couple’s tragic deaths.Joey Padilla, the owner of dog day care center Santa Fe Tails, told the Daily Mail on Tuesday that Bear, a German shepherd, and Nikita, an Akita-shepherd mix, have been sent to new homes.Padilla said he dropped off one of the dogs out of the state, while the other is in a local home. The dog trainer couldn’t reveal where the pets ended up, but he did confirm that Hackman and Arakawa’s estate lawyer signed off on the decision.“It is with great joy that, with the consent of the estate attorney, I and my staff at Santa Fe Tails have successfully found homes for the Hackmans’ surviving dogs, Bear and Nikita,” Padilla said in a statement, per the Daily Mail.“We went through stringent efforts to ensure the best homes were found and the dogs have already begun settling into their new lives,” he continued. “We are all thankful for the concern and well wishes Bear and Nikita have received during their transition.”Padilla’s statement added, “It is our hope that everyone continues to wish them the best and honor their privacy so they can continue to heal.”A personal representative for the estates also released a comment to People.

King Charles accepting applications for shepherd to look after 2,000 royal sheep
King Charles III is looking for a shepherd to help look after his 2,000 royal sheep -but they must have their own dog.The Sandringham Estate is advertising for a skilled shepherd with at least two years’ experience to tend the monarch’s 2,000-strong flock of Aberfields. The farm on Sandringham Estate has 200 hectares of permanent grass for breeding the ewes and beef shorthorn-based cattle.Criteria for becoming the King’s newest shepherd includes having your own working dog, a full clean UK driving licence and a right to live and work in the UK.A job advert on its website says: “Day to day shepherding will form the majority of this role with some assistance in winter housing and spring calving of the beef herd.“A passion for livestock, an open mind, and a willingness to learn and develop alongside an innovative system will be critical to succeeding in this role.”It says the successful candidate will be a self-motivated team player “able to uphold the highest standards of animal welfare”.And it adds they must have their own working dog or dogs and a full driving licence.Sheep on the estate, which is organically-farmed, are used to produce “finished lamb for a premium supermarket retailer”.Their numbers were increased by the then Prince Charles in 2019 as their droppings would help fertilise the sandy soil. The King has revolutionised farming on the 21,000-acre estate, which he inherited after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II in September, 2022.As well as turning it over the organic farming methods, he has also re-introduced rare breed cattle, planted hedgerows and helped rear rare birds.

Tragic stingray misunderstanding 18 years after Steve Irwin’s death remains
Aussie icon and conservationist Steve Irwin died, killed by a stingray while filming on the Great Barrier Reef. It’s a death that sent shockwaves around the world as The Crocodile Hunter was a global brand with legions of fans from across the globe.Even today, nearly 18 years later, it’s a death that hits plenty of people hard — and has classed stingrays as deadly and dangerous. It’s something that momentarily crossed my mind when I was sent for a stingray experience on a recent assignment to New Zealand. But what I found was the complete opposite and a new appreciation for a tragically misunderstood animal.Stingrays are prevalent across Australia and New Zealand with the animals living in coastal waters and in warm and tropical areas and migrating in cooler months. While stingrays have the ability to kill with their barbs, reportedly fewer than 20 people have been killed worldwide by stingrays since 1945, with just five in Australia. To put it into perspective, 91 people died falling out of bed in Australia in 2022, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.More common are injuries from the stingray barbs, which release a complex venom that is painful if struck, but the injuries are generally treated with hot water immersion, unless there’s a deep puncture. It is recommended if you are stung by a stingray to seek medical attention as it may also require a tetanus shot or an inspection to ensure none of the barb remains in the injured area. But in the wild, more likely the old adage “they’re more scared of you than you are of them” comes to mind.Often the biggest issue is stingrays being stepped on by people, or the stingray getting a fright and feeling it needs to defend itself. It makes experiences like those offered at

Flock of sheep force Tom Cruise to halt Mission: Impossible 8 filming – can ewe believe it?
Tom Cruise is ready for anything on set but he probably didn’t expect a flock of sheep to grind Mission: Impossible 8 filming to a halt. The cast and crew(e) would have been forgiven for being a bit sheepish as things went a bit pear-sheeped during a shoot in the Lake District for the upcoming blockbuster. No, we’re not making any apologies for our baa-d puns.Thankfully, Tom – who plays Ethan Hunt in the blockbuster action franchise – appeared to be in good spirits as the woolly locals wandered in, leading to a pause on location to give them a safe passage through.Let’s be honest, maybe the four-legged friends just wanted to meet the Top Gun legend – or even land a cameo to give them a shot at becoming the next Shaun the Sheep? It all went down when a crew member opened a gate letting the huge flock past the set, with local walkers having to back off from the gate as they came flowing through. In another awkward moment, the shoot was stopped again when two microlight aircraft passed directly over the set, which means the movie’s two helicopters needed to touch down in an adjacent field until it was safe to take flight again.Thankfully, Tom was still able to nail his takes, living up to his reputation for throwing himself into every stunt. Here, he was pictured in a helicopter performing a corkscrews towards the ground as he performed a tight downward spin, pulling himself up at the last minute before landing safely in front of the crew.In another shot, the 60-year-old actor was spotted mid-air sporting a blue parachute as he fell to the ground. He’s currently working on the second part of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, with the first edition due in July 2023, and part two coming the following summer.Meanwhile, it’s not
