Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to help shut down the event in Piccadilly Gardens and disperse those present. And ahead of the weekend, one of the force's chiefs and the regions' deputy mayor have issued a direct appeal to anyone who may be considering organising or attending potential future protests and mass gatherings to think again.Assistant Chief Constable Nick Bailey, Head of Special Operations and Public Order at GMP said the law enforcing the new national lockdown, which came into force on Thursday 5 November, means gatherings of more than two people who don't live together are illegal with protests no longer exempt from these restrictions.
