Grassroots rugby league club gets council cash boost after clubhouse goes over budget by £340k

Sign up to the MySalford newsletter and don't miss a thing happening in and around the cityAn amateur rugby league club will benefit from extra council cash to build a new pitch-side clubhouse which has exceeded its budget by £340,000.Salford City Roosters successfully bid for support from the Rugby League World Cup 2021 Capital Grants Legacy Programme in the summer of 2019.The amateur club based in Eccles, which is putting £14,000 of its own money into the project, will get £377,863 from the World Cup through Sport England.Salford council also agreed to contribute £300,000 towards the project.But the building project went over budget which has led the local authority to more than double its financial contribution towards the grassroots.
