Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Napoli in the Europa League on Thursday night.Torres missed two golden opportunities in the dying embers of the match which left the 21-year-old broken after the full time whistle sounded.

The Spaniard scored the equaliser for the Catalan club in the 59th minute after Napoli took the lead in the first half through Piotr Zielinski.

After VAR ruled that Adama Traore’s cross was handled inside the box, Torres coolly dispatched his penalty past Alex Meret. However, if the former Manchester City star had showed more composure in front of goal in the latter stages of the match then Barca would have had a healthy advantage heading into the second leg.In the last five minutes of the match, Torres smashed two golden opportunities over the bar from inside the penalty area – essentially costing his side the win.His manager, Xavi, jumped to the defence of his striker though, explaining that it is not unusual for the pressure of being Barca’s talisman to be too much at times. He said: “It happened to Luis Suarez, who seemed to have no goals," Xavi said."The Barca shirt weighs a few kilos more.

But I am delighted to have him in the team and he will give me a lot of joy."If he is in the penalty area it is because he will score.
