Gran bans 5-year-old granddaughter from home because she doesn't like nickname

A mum lashed out at her mother-in-law for banning their daughter from her home. The little girl wasn’t welcome because she protested about a nickname chosen by her gran.

The couple’s child is called Colette, but since birth her father’s mum has called her “Letters”. This is because of the last five letters of her name.

The mum said she has always let the name go, despite it being “not the greatest nickname in the world.” That was, until her daughter raised a question.

She said: “Why does grandma call me letters? My name is Colette." The mum explained what a nickname was – but her daughter said that it felt weird and she didn’t like it.
