Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley came under fire after he shared his thoughts on the rise in tax to boost funding for the National Health Service.During Wednesday’s (April 6) instalment of the popular ITV morning show, the 65-year-old joined his co-host Kate Garraway on the desk as they discussed the latest news headlines.The dynamic duo welcomed journalist commentators Kevin Maguire and Andrew Pierce in the studio alongside beloved medical professional Dr Hilary Jones.As they started the controversial discussion, the dad-of-two posed the question of whether the “great sprawling web called the NHS needs root and branch reform.”And it’s fair to say the broadcaster had ruffled some feathers as Kevin jumped in with the hurtful comment, saying: “It’s very pejorative to call it a big sprawling web.
That’s how people begin to demonise it and run it down.”The reporter went on to reference a report which found catastrophic failings at Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Hospitals Trust which contributed towards hundreds of babies’ deaths over the last 20 years.He went on to say: “I’m not going to apologise for mistakes that happened in Shrewsbury and Telford in maternity services, but it’s a precious public service.“It’s a matter of life and death for some people.
