Large groups of people have been meeting for drinks and flooding parks and beaches across the UK despite coronavirus lockdown measures still being enforced as the bank holiday weekend began.
Police in Manchester broke up a group of “at least 50 people” on Friday, the Manchester Evening News reports – while parks in Liverpool were left resembling “a festival” as members of the public flocked to open spaces amid warm bank holiday weekend weather.
Eyewitnesses say the group in Manchester were gathered in Salford Quays playing loud music and “spraying champagne bottles” at around 1.30pm.
Police arrived at the scene at 2.35pm to disperse the crowd – with the group being condemned by medical workers who fear people are ignoring social distance
