Fears of Ebola second wave after WHO announces death of 11-month-old girl

An 11-month-old girl has become the second person to die from Ebola in days after seven weeks with no cases. World Health Organisation (WHO) said the death was recorded in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The country was set to mark an end to the second-deadliest outbreak of the virus on record. But then a case was confirmed in Beni, and has now killed more than 2,200 since August 2018 in the country.

The 11-month-old girl was treated at the same health centre as the previous case, a 26-year-old electrician, said Boubacar Diallo, deputy incident manager for the WHO's Ebola response.

Officials say it is not yet clear how the electrician contracted Ebola. He had no known contacts with other Ebola patients and was not a survivor of the virus
