AC Milan stars Fikayo Tomori and Mike Maignan both reported allegations of racial abuse during a Serie A match against Cagliari.Tomori and Maignan claimed they received abuse from home supporters after Ismael Bennacer sealed a 1-0 win for the Rossoneri.
Goalkeeper Maignan put his fingers to his ears to Cagliari fans at full-time during the incident. The Milan duo have since reported the incident to the club hierarchy after making it known to boss Stefano Pioli. "Mike told me there was some abuse from behind the goal.
Tomori also told me the same thing," Pioli said after the game. "It’s always sad when these things happen, nobody deserves that.” The alleged abuse came on the weekend Serie A matches were dedicated to a campaign called 'Keep Racism Out'.
An investigation has since been launched by the Italian Football Federation in relation to the incident."This Serie A matchday was dedicated to the stand against racism, but there's still a long road ahead and we must keep on fighting together: #KeepRacismOut," Milan said in a statement.In February 2020, three Cagliari fans were banned for life after being found guilty of racist abuse.
