Retired Argentine footballer Guillermo Marino's excuse for missing a training session has to be up there with the greatest on record.
His graphic account of being abducted by extra-terrestrials to have his soul examined, retold by a former teammate, was so convincing that his colleagues were all won over by his tale.
The incident allegedly occurred as the ex-Boca Juniors star travelled for a training session with Universidad de Chile, then managed by ex-Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli.
Marino spent a successful three years with the Santiago-based club, winning three Primera Division titles and the Copa Sudamericana.
