Everton fans are queuing up to thank the protester who handcuffed himself to the post during their 1-0 victory over Newcastle United on Thursday, as the delay he caused meant enough time was added on for them to grab a late winner.Alex Iwobi netted the all-important goal for the Toffees in the ninth minute of a whopping 14 added on at Goodison Park, to ease some of the intense pressure on the shoulders of Frank Lampard and his squad.The home side looked down and out after losing Allan to a controversial red card late in the second half, but rallied to finally end their run of consecutive defeats which has left them teetering on the edge of the relegation zone.
But rather than lavish their winning goalscorer with praise, a number of Everton supporters seemed far more interested in thanking the gutsy protester instead."Did Everton hire that protester tonight?
What a difference maker," one fan tweeted."That must be a first! Everton score the winner in 'time added on to allow protestor to be uncoupled from zip tie to the post'," said another.A third Everton fan even responded to a tweet the club put out after the game asking fans to name their man of the match, saying: "the protester".Who do you think won the game for Everton - Alex Iwobi or the protester?
