Drivers warned of £5k fine for getting caught wearing everyday item of clothing

The Highway Code is constantly changing its rules, while new Clean Air Zones have been put into place.Now drivers must be very careful about their wardrobe as that could land them in a lot of trouble.That's because motorists can risk a £5,000 fine if they're caught wearing an everyday item of clothing in the car.Baggy jeans and even long dresses have been branded inappropriate and you could receive a fine of £100 on the spot.And if they're stopped by the police, wearing a pair of shades, that'll be three penalty points too.These fines can increase to £5,000, plus nine penalty points and even a driving ban if the case is taken to court.The reason for this is because these items could restrict manoeuvring in your car which makes it dangerous to drive.As a result, drivers are being urged to familiarise themselves with rule 97 in the Highway Code.This rule states road users must have "footwear and clothing which does not prevent you using the controls in the correct manner".Want all the biggest Lifestyle news straight to your inbox?
