A darts match between Joe Cullen and Daryl Gurney on Sunday afternoon spiralled into chaos as some members of the crowd started whistling.During the German Darts Championship match, referee George Noble had called on the crowd several times to stop making noises as it was clearly putting off and aggravating the players. The whistling continued and the referee threatened to stop the game entirely, insisting that if such sounds persisted he would be taking the players off the stage. After Gurney managed to find his stride and saw off Cullen with a 6-3 win in the last 16, some online comments blasted the actions of the crowd.

One said: "Why on earth would anyone do that? Imagine like you go to a professional darts championship created by the PDC, you are watching the raining masters and a one-time world grand prix winner playing an amazing game and YOU are whistling like you have nothing better to do."Another scorned: "Paying good money to watch the best in the world play, and some jacka** is whistling.

I'd be irate if I was in the crowd."A last one wrote: "To be honest I don’t know why they’re allowed to taunt and jeer while they’re throwing in the first place, especially when on a finish.

When I used to play pub darts, players would go mad at crowds and call it barracking lol if it’s frowned upon in pub darts it definitely should be in a professional setting."Gurney averaged 96 as he saw off Luke Humphries 6-4 to reach the Last 16 in one of the highly touted clashes of the session.Do you think more should be done to stop fans at events putting players off?
