A dad who had been waiting 18 months for a hernia operation was refused surgery moments before it was due to take place as he had not been isolating from his fiancee and kids.
Darren Sargeant, 40, had already changed into a surgery gown and was sitting in a chair awaiting anaesthetic when a doctor came in and said his surgery could not go ahead.
The father of one, from Basildon, Essex, had been told to isolate "as best as he could" in the lead-up to his surgery at Basildon Hospital.
But, despite testing negative for Covid-19 three days before the operation, doctors deemed Darren an "amber risk" - because he had still been living with his fiancee, Carly Phillips, and their three kids.
