Well-being boxes bring a smile to older adults across Renfrewshire

A tea bag, some shortbread and a small bag of lavender have been packed into parcels and delivered to 200 older adults across Renfrewshire.Staff at Roar – Connections for Life put together the well-being boxes as a minding to those who aren’t back at the popular clubs.The charity received a generous donation last year with the stipulation that it be put to use to support older adults either over Christmas or into the New Year.And staff decided to make up the boxes to post as a surprise to people to remind them that they’re still thinking about them and to look forward to brighter days ahead.Cara Murdoch from Roar said: “We are still trying to get up to full staffing levels to run our clubs so we thought about what we could do.“We wanted to let our service users know we’re thinking of them and working hard.“Someone mentioned the letterbox parcels and we thought we could put something together that would be sent out in the post as a surprise.

We’ve called it Relax and Recharge with Roar.“It’s a bit of a random mix of things to help cheer people up while they’re at home.”Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.Included in the packs are a teabag and coffee sachet, shortbread, a bag of lavender, a pebble with an inspirational quote, seeds, a leaflet on staying hydrated and mobile as well as some exercises to do at home.Staff formed a production line to put the 200 boxes together at the Roar offices in Paisley.They have started arriving through people’s letter boxes and Cara said they’ve had some lovely messages of thanks.“We wanted it to be a nice wee treat, a wee minding to make them aware we haven’t forgotten about them,” she said.“For a lot of people, we’ve not seen them
