A crime writer who is friends with Nicola Sturgeon was allowed to hold a book launch at the First Minister’s official residence.
The SNP leader has been accused of cronyism after hosting the Val McDermid event at Bute House in Edinburgh.McDermid is one of Scotland’s most successful authors and has sold more than 17million books around the world.
She is a vocal supporter of Sturgeon and spoke out in her favour in a TV show about her battle with Alex Salmond earlier this year.
The pair are often described as close friends and appeared together discussing books at a crime writing festival in Yorkshire.A Labour source said: “If you are the First Minister’s pal, you get to launch your book – a commercial enterprise – at Bute House.
