Russians have shared pictures they claim show the old Botkin Hospital in St Petersburg site revealing filthy bathrooms, peeling wallpaper, and missing tiles.
President Vladimir Putin was questioned about the state of the 19th-century-built hospital just months before the coronavirus outbreak began sweeping the world.
He told a news conference he was aware of the "sad situation" in the hospital , and said he did not have information about longstanding plans to rebuild the facility but promised to speak to a local Governor about the issue.
