Stargazers have been urged to marvel at a newly discovered comet which is visible to the naked eye over the skies of the UK this month.
People should keep an eye out as the comet, known as Neowise, won't return for another 6,800 years. The mountain-sized extraterrestrial object made its closest approach to the sun on July 3 and is now shining brightly in the night skies.
Beautiful images show the comet lined up with St Mary's Lighthouse in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, at around 12.45am on Tuesday morning.
