Chelsea fans were left raging after VAR ruled out Marcos Alonso’s Champions League quarter-final goal against Real Madrid. The Spaniard sparked wild scenes in the away end when he beat Thibaut Courtois from close range in the 62nd minute on Tuesday night.
Alonso thought he had put the Blues up 3-0 and 4-3 on aggregate until VAR shattered Chelsea hearts.A VAR check found the ball had hit the left-back’s hand when it ricocheted off Dani Carvajal, which put the ball back into his path to score.
Yet the decision was deemed extremely harsh by sections of the Chelsea support on Twitter, who complained Alonso knew very little about where the ball was when it struck him.One fan tweeted: “That wasn’t even close to being a handball.
He moved his hand out of the way. Pure robbery.”Another wrote: “That was never a handball…” while a third added: “That's absolutely ridiculous.”A fourth complained: “NAH VAR IS A JOKE SERIOUSLY.”Do you think VAR was correct to rule out Marcos Alonso's goal?
