He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Boris Johnson to host Downing Street press conference later today

Boris Johnson is set to host a Downing Street press conference this afternoon, No 10 has confirmed. It is not been confirmed what time the PM is speaking - but they are usually held at 5pm.

It comes as the Government faces serious questions about its handling of the pandemic, after the UK's death toll passed 100,000.

This morning the Communities Secretary claimed the government took the “right decisions at the right time” through the coronavirus crisis.

Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick said “we did everything that we could to protect people’s lives”, but admitted some things could have been done differently “with the benefit of hindsight”.
