Outlander and history fans will already be familiar with Bonnie Prince Charlie's strong links with France. The Auld Alliance between Scotland and France has always played a part in our history and it was this that Prince Charles Edward Stuart, as well as a shared enmity towards the British Government of the time, hoped to use to his advantage.
Two letters, handwritten by the Young Pretender himself, are currently on display at Culloden and give a key insight into his thoughts and actions after the Jacobite defeat by Government forces in 1746.
Having managed to flee to Skye (referenced in the now-famous Skye Boat Song) with the help of Flora MacDonald, the Bonnie Prince made it to France where he once again hoped to gain support for his bid.
