Fare-dodger launched vicious assault on ticket inspector who tried to stop him fleeing Victoria Station

A man who assaulted a ticket inspector who tried to stop him from leaving Manchester Victoria station without paying has been jailed.

Myles Amharic Roberts, 34, of Bramhall Lane, Stockport, received a 10 week custodial sentence after pleading guilty to assault at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on February 3.

The court heard how Roberts departed a train at Manchester Victoria on February 2 and attempted to bypass the automatic ticket machines at the exit by using an overflow gate. Roberts then, upset at being challenged, proceeded to push the inspector in the chest with force and tried to make his way out of the station.
