Ukrainian officials have pleaded with Russia for an 'immediate cease fire' at a nuclear plant as a massive blaze threatens a blast '10 times larger than Chernobyl'.
Fighting between Ukrainian and Russian troops at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been raging for the past few hours.
Reports suggest that Russian shelling struck one of the plant's power units, creating a potentially deadly blaze. A local TV station reported on Twitter that: "The occupiers hit the first power unit of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the fire continues.
It is currently impossible to eliminate the fire and the consequences of the shelling due to heavy fire from the enemy."Minutes later, Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba also took to Twitter to beg Russia to stop the shelling.He wrote: "Russian army is firing from all sides upon Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
