BBC Pointless contestant shares backstage secrets including 'not seeing presenters'

BBC's Pointless has been a firm family favourite since it took to the airwaves in 2009 but one contestant has dished the dirt on his experience.Adam Grinsell who appeared on the programme alongside his pal Lucy walked away from the BBC studios with a grand total of £4,250, much to their delight.Despite the long hours for filming, he claims he had the time of his life but has reflected on his experience, admitting he rarely saw hosts Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman apart from during their time in the studio.However, despite his victory, Adam admits it wasn't his idea to appear on the programme.Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, he said: "My friend Lucy who suggested it - she'd spotted that they were looking for applicants, we sent off our application forms."We had to attend an audition day at a local hotel in Birmingham city centre and had to play a practice game of Pointless as a group."The pair went on to speak to producers as well as film a piece-to-camera clip for the programme to determine whether they landed a space on the show.Having been confirmed for the programme, Adam revealed that the production company put them up in a local hotel close to the studios but they had to cover the cost of their travel themselves but were reimbursed at a later date.Discussing his interactions with Richard and Alexander, he revealed: "You don't actually see much of them, ou meet them for the first time before you start filming the first show."They come down the line of contestants, introduce themselves and shake everyone's hand, but there's no time for short talk really, I was pretty nervous."Giving an insight into the filming routine, he added: "We were told to be there in the morning, it was an early start, up around.
