BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty has taken to Twitter to bid farewell to her ex-colleague as he is set to leave broadcasting behind after four decades.Eddie Mair has decided to quit journalism after 40 years, during which his glittering career has seen him present BBC Radio 4, Newsnight and Any Questions.Recently, Eddie has presented on LBC radio and announced his departure on his four year anniversary since joining the company.He shared a tweet to his 125,000 followers about the decision.Mair wrote: “Apologies for this.

There is a war and a cost of living crisis but here is some blah about me. My only regret about LBC is not joining sooner. I’m having a ball and all things being equal would probably carry on forever.”He then praised Global, the owner of LBC, for “loving and supporting” the radio industry before noting that he “doesn’t have time on his side”.Eddie continued: “Like many others, during Covid, I had a rethink about life and in the summer of 2020 told my bosses and close friends and colleagues about my plans to leave.”The 56-year-old said that he had “been at this” for 40 years and wanted to enjoy his time before he “croaks,” so will carry on “as a devoted LBC listener” but wishes to “pass things on to someone new”.He signed off by wishing his successor “all the best” and received a flurry of replies over the disappointing news.One response was from his fellow BBC colleague Naga Munchetty, who fawned over the presenter, saying: “Love listening to Eddie Mair.
