Ebay have removed 'barbaric' dog ear cropping kits from their websites after they sparked outrage from vets and campaigners.
The British Veterinary Association (BVA) wrote to the firms after they discovered the cruel kits - which come with a scalpel, forceps, ten blades and a pair of special scissors - were on sale from international retailers.Cropping, also known as docking, is where a young dog's ear lobes are cut away.
It is illegal in the UK under the Animal Welfare Act, unless it is carried out for medical reasons. But some owners have been known to cut puppies' ears to make them look "tougher".
The BVA has been running a campaign to outlaw the practice and to educate pet owners that cropping or straightening the ears of their pets is cruel.President Justine Shotton wrote a letter to express her members' concerns 'about the easy availability of ear straightening or correcting accessories'.Dr Shotton said: "We took action after being made aware by a few vets about the availability of ear cropping kits on eBay UK.
