Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson had the perfect response to Benfica fans launching missiles and lighters at him in the Reds’ Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday night.Jurgen Klopp ’s side ran out worthy winners at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, beating the Primeira Liga side 3-1.
Ibrahima Konate, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz were all on the scoresheet for the Reds, whilst Manchester United target Darwin Nunez did give Benfica a glimmer of hope with a well-taken goal when his side were 2-0 down.
Late in the game, Robertson was almost struck by several objects by Benfica fans as he went to take a corner though, fortunately, he emerged after taking the set-piece unscathed.
Speaking about the incident after the game, he said: "They weren’t best pleased were they! I had quite a few lighters thrown at me, so maybe it’ll help them stop smoking and take the positives!"But, we’ve seen it a lot, people getting hit and things like that, it was quite close to me but none hit me.
