Before the internet and Amazon were a thing, buying birthday and Christmas gifts for loved ones was a little trickier. As a parent you had to plan in advance so you had time to save up, while as a child you were given strict instructions about cost.
It was a different time - the economic picture of the 80s affected spending for many, while many homes only had one wage-earner.
Those less well off would often rely on family allowance and the occasional Provident cheque loan to get them by. It was a simpler time - 80s kids didn’t get hundreds of pounds spent on them like youngsters of today often do.
