Money talks now as much as ever, with several drivers on the grid benefiting from huge financial support. As a result, hot prospect Oscar Piastri, who won the Formula Renault Eurocup, Formula 3 and Formula 2 titles from 2019 to 2021, has had to bide his time as a test and reserve driver for Alpine.
The Australian was linked with Alfa Romero last year, but the seat alongside Valtteri Bottas when to Zhou Guanyu, the runner-up in F2 last year, who benefits from huge Chinese backing.And then there are the Canadians, Lance Stroll of Aston Martin and Nicholas Latifi of Williams.
Stroll’s place at Aston Martin is arguably the safest in F1 due to his father Lawrence’s ownership of the team, while Latifi’s dad, Michael, owns key Williams sponsor Sofina.
