F1 drivers Lance Stroll and Nicholas Latifi have endured a torrid weekend at the Canadian Grand Prix so far. The pair struggled to get the grips with the wet conditions in qualifying and will line up near the back of the grid in Montreal, with Aston Martin’s Stroll 17th and Latifi of Williams in 18th.
The two cars immediately behind them, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Yuki Tsunoda of AlphaTauri, are only starting at the back after taking engine penalties.Both Canadians are having difficult seasons which have seen them struggle to keep pace with their teammates and have far too many crashes.
Their respective fortunes has raised questions over their presence at the sport’s top table, which they essentially owe to their super-rich fathers.
Lawrence Stroll owns the Aston Martin team while Michael Latifi is a major sponsor of Williams. The place of Latifi junior is looking increasingly precarious, with Alpine reserve driver Oscar Piastri being heavily linked with his seat for 2023.
