David Attenborough has explained the importance of leaving a spoon of sugar out in your garden in hot weather. The wildlife legend is urging Brits to leave the sweet substance out for one critter that's particularly vital to our eco-system.
By putting some sugar out as often as possible, you will be helping the bee population that's currently on the decline, the Mirror reports.
According to the host of many BBC nature documentaries, if bees were removed from the eco system, humans wouldn't be able to survive for more than five years.
While bees usually get their energy from plants, leaving sugar out can give them a well needed energy boost to keep them going, especially in hot weather.Speaking to Country Living, David explained: "Bees can become tired and they simply don’t have enough energy to return to the hive, which can often result in being swept away.
