One of the most memorable characters from the first season of Sunderland ‘Til I Die was the club's chief executive Martin Bain.

Series one of the Netflix documentary followed the club during its 2017/18 Championship’s season as Sunderland looked to get straight back into the Premier League.

The Black Cats exited English football’s second tier’s after just one season but at the wrong end, being relegated for a second successive season and ending up in League One.

Viewers quickly latched on to chief executive Martin Bain, comparing him to The Office’s David Brent. Fans got their first sight of him as he completed lengths in the training ground pool, with his office Nespresso machine spotted later on.
