Ricky Gervais says fans flock to him to tell him about dead relatives and open up about their most personal feelings following the success of his hit dark comedy After Life.

The 58-year-old comedian plays grieving widower Tony Johnson in the hit Netflix series which sees him adjusting to life following the death of his wife, Lisa – played in flashbacks by Kerry Godliman.

For years after playing David Brent on breakout show The Office, Ricky says that his fans are now more likely to open up to him about their personal grief rather than ask him to perform his Brent dance.
