It made sense with the rest of his image: a sensible practical car for a sensible practical politician. Whatever his personal riches, he was not one to waste money on petrol-powered fripperies.
Earlier this week, his story began to unravel, after sources dobbed him in to the Mirror. The Golf, they claimed, was merely the cheapest in a four-car collection spread across Sunak’s various homes.
Apparently he has a Range Rover at his constituency in Richmond, Yorkshire; a Lexus at his estate in California and, somewhere, a BMW.
