Rishi Sunak faced criticism for being "out of touch" with the UK population after it came to light that he owns four cars - rather than the modest family car he claims to drive.

The Chancellor stated yesterday he owns a Volkswagen Golf the he and his family use to get about London in. However, this is by far the cheapest of the millionaire Tory's car selection, kept at his properties around the world.

Sources claim the Richmond MP's fleet includes a high-specification Range Rover, priced from £94,000 new, kept at his luxury North Yorkshire constituency home.

They say he also has two additional vehicles - a top-of-the-class Lexus and a BMW – for use at his sprawling Santa Monica pad, according to the Mirror.A new Lexus can cost between £50,000 and £80,000 while BMWs start from £30,000 and go well over six-figures for top end models.Mr Sunak faced a backlash last week after he borrowed a Kia Rio worth about £12,000 to promote a temporary 5p fuel duty cut in his Spring Statement.He used £30.01 of his own cash to fill up the car at a Sainsbury’s but later admitted the car belonged to supermarket employee.During a grilling over his mini-Budget, which has been accused of failing to provide enough support for struggling families, Mr Sunak told MPs he has a pre-2019 VW Golf.Treasury select committee member Siobhan McDonagh had asked whether his family had a Rio, to which he replied: “We have a Golf”.The Labour MP then asked if he regularly filled up other people’s cars. “Actually was an employee at Sainsbury’s,” Mr Sunak said.“I’m very grateful to Sainsbury’s for passing on the fuel duty cut very quickly because people’s petrol bills are rising.”But motorists criticised the cut for only saving them a few pounds a month when
