West Ham sent scouts to watch Danish duo Christian Eriksen and Joakim Maehle this week with a view to a double swoop. The Hammers are one of several clubs considering a bid for Eriksen, who shone on his return to the Premier League with Brentford last season.
But they are also in for right-back Maehle, who plays for Atalanta in Serie A and has 26 caps for his country. Both players starred in Denmark's 2-1 win over Austria in the Nations League on Monday, with Maehle playing left wing and Eriksen creating the winner.
Eriksen is available on a free transfer this summer as he weighs up his options amid interest from Manchester United and Tottenham.
But sources close to the former Spurs star insist he could still choose to stay at Brentford, who have offered him a new contract.
