Wedding from hell as venue night porter opens newlyweds' cards and steals £5,000

wedding venue staff worker opened the cards from their guests and stole nearly £5,000.Gavin, 42, and Terrimarie Boland, 35, tied the knot at Beamish Hall Hotel in County Durham with 200 guests back in June 2019, having spent £37,000 on their special day.But their nupitals took a "horrible" turn when they found £4,000 of gifted cash had been stolen from wedding cards that had been given by their friends and family.A member of staff at the venue had ripped open their wedding cards as they partied the night away with the guests.Night porter Andrew Morris was jailed for 18 months for six counts of theft after admitting to pocketing cash from six weddings including the Boland's big day.Hot tub leisure hireman Gavin, who lives with new wife Terrimarie and their six kids in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, said: "He'd obviously ripped a few of the cards open and stolen the cash, but he must have also just grabbed a handful cards as well without opening them."We haven't even seen some of the cards that he took so we'll never know - it's just horrible.

We'd spent a lot on the wedding anyway, and we've got six kids - £4,000 is a lot of money to get stolen from us.He also revealed that he had to phone up guests from the wedding and ask them how much they'd given as a gift, and even ended up destroying a 20-year friendship when they initially blamed a pal who had driven them home.Their shock deepened when Durham Police contacted them two months later in August 2019 to say they had found their wedding cards inside a Beamish Hall staff member's car.Police found cards, cash and cheques from six weddings, including the Bolands, inside night porter Andrew Morris' car.Morris, who had only started working at the reputable wedding venue four.
