The borough is one of four parts of the region to have a Covid rate above the English average - and is the only one to see its case numbers rise week-on-week in the latest figures.

Dr Jeanelle de Gruchy, director of public health for Tameside, is cautiously optimistic for the weeks ahead thanks to the success of the vaccine in reducing extreme illness and hospital admissions.
