Last week, L.A. based artist Pink Siifu pleasantly surprised his longtime listeners when he dropped NEGRO, his new album which trades in his typically soulful, introspective raps for highly charged punk with some traces of free jazz.
In an essay written on a website especially made for the album, Siifu shared that the source of NEGRO's rage comes from the constant threat of death that Black people face in the U.S., whether that be at the hands of police or by the larger society at some capacity.
One of the album's standouts is "SMD," a short burst of energy that sees Siifu denouncing abusive law enforcement while ensuring Black people that they will persevere.
