Charles Ingram
Charles William Ingram (born 6 August 1963) is an English novelist, computer repairman, and former British Army major who became known for being accused and convicted of cheating on the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2001, after winning the maximum prize of one million pounds. Following a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, he was convicted on a single count of procuring the execution of a valuable security by deception. He was convicted of an unrelated insurance fraud in 2003, and ordered to resign his commission as a major by the Army Board.

Charles Ingram's infamous appearance on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire has got the nation talking agan thanks to ITV's infections new drama Quiz.

The three part series - starring Michael Sheen as host Chris Tarrant and Matthew Macfadyen as contestant Ingram - details the 'coughing majors' spectacular triumph on the show and crushing downfall as he was found guilty of cheating his way to the top.

The 2001 episode remains one of the most controversial in quiz show history - but interestingly, it was never aired on ITV. After production staff became alerted to suspicious about coughing noises in the studio as Charles played the game some swift decisions were made.
