A judge has ruled that a retail worker was discriminated against for not being allowed to wear shorts to work, when female colleagues were allowed to wear trousers that fell short of ‘full length’.
Mr Miah, whose job it was to distribute medicines to Boots stores, wore a pair of cropped trousers during a particularly hot summer in 2018, and despite losing his claim due to a timings issue, Judge Alan Johnson claims he was the victim of sex discrimination.
While I’m no authority on the ins and outs of Boots uniform policies, as a wider rule of thumb (and as Men’s Style Editor of this parish), my view is that shorts - and all variants of - are off-duty attire only.
