The UK's frosty spell will continue into the new year, with further snow and ice forecast bringing hazardous conditions to much of the country.
The Met Office has issued snow and ice weather warnings for Wednesday and Thursday across large swathes of Britain. Wintry showers falling as rain, sleet and snow fell throughout yesterday evening, with north-west England and North Wales covered by a weather warning for ice until 10am today.
Much of Northern Ireland and northern Scotland - where temperatures have plunged as low as minus 7.7C (18F) - is covered by a weather warning for snow and ice until just before midnight.
