The Met Office has issued danger to life warnings for snow as temperatures in parts of the country plunge. Both yellow and amber warnings have been issued, with forecasters warning of some severe disruption to travel.
There is also a possibility of power cuts with predictions up ot 20cm (8 inches) of snow could fall on some higher ground. Yellow weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued for northern England and Scotland, in place from this morning until 9pm tomorrow.
An amber weather warning for snow has also been issued for parts of Scotland and the north east of England, with forecasters saying: "Rain will turn to snow across Scotland on Wednesday afternoon and evening, initially on high ground, but increasingly to lower levels.
